In connection with realizing partnership with the fraternized towns and in connection with the European program for integration we support youth exchanges. In late December, 2007 the Youth House hosted it's annual Christmas Party. The party was held at Energy Club and was widely attended by the youth of Sliven. The party began with a greeting from our director. After this, everyone ate the delicious food and treats. Soon after the dancing began! In between disco dancing, the youth performed various acts. These acts included a rap song, a choreographed hip-hop dance, a guitar and singing duet and others. At the end of the night awards were given to various teens. These awards ranged from best singing to craziest dancing! After the announcement, every youth was given a small Christmas gift and card from the Youth House. The night concluded with a long chain of horo dancing! The party was a great time and a hit with all the youth!

December 1st is the International HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. In honor of this day, the Youth House hosted an AIDS awareness campaign on December 1, 2007. The campaign kicked off the week prior to December 1st. During this week students made red ribbons, symbols of AIDS awareness. The students went to the first school in Sliven to distribute the ribbons to students and raise awareness. The next event was a debate held in the Oblast building. Six students from the debate team held a public debate on the topic "Are HIV positive individuals the same as non-HIV positive individuals?" Local teens attended the debate and actively participated by asking the team questions about the topic. The debate was covered by the local media and deemed a success! The culmination of the campaign took place on December 1. During the day students stood in the main square and handed out condoms, red ribbons and literature to the citizens of Sliven. That evening in the "Zora" concert hall, the Youth House hosted a multi-media show to raise awareness about AIDS. The show was lead by six hosts and consisted of two films and numerous performances by local youth. The youth each had different acts involving dancing, singing, rapping and even beat-boxing! The concert was widely attended with some having to stand as all the seats were taken. The concert was, of course, a great success. Congratulations to all the students involved!

In late December, 2007, the Youth House hosted a Christmas Party and Show for the residents of the Sliven Nursing Home. About 50 residents attended the show and 15-20 teens came to help bring Christmas cheer to them! The show was led by two youth hosts. The show had many acts, including a guitar duet, a rap song, and traditional folk singers. At the close of the program, Dyado Koleda came to visit and brought gifts for all the residents! After this, the youth gave small gifts and delicious cookies to the residents. Each resident also received a beautiful handmade Christmas card created by the youth. The residents were glad to receive the cards and gifts. Before it was time to leave the home, the residents and some of the youth made time to dance the horo! A great time was had by all and Christmas cheer was!

In mid-December, 2007 the Youth House hosted a weekend-long winter training camp at the Slivenski Mineral Baths. 20 people total attended the camp, which included teenagers and youth. The youth were split into two groups: the debate team and the English club. The groups worked separately at times, and together at other times. The debate team learned about the basics of debating and also discussed the problem of human trafficking in the world. The English club talked about important current issues, including environmental policy and civic responsibility. The first night of the camp the students viewed a film about human trafficking. After the film, the students were lead in a discussion about the issue. The second night the debate team staged a mock human trafficking trial. In the trial, two men were accused of trafficking a young girl across international borders. The audience consisted of the English club as well as guests staying at the hotel. At the conclusion of the trial a lively discussion occurred between the students and the guests of the hotel about the importance of this issue. In addition to work time, the students were are also given fun time! Our fun time consisted of games, team building activities and nature walks. By the end of the weekend new friendships had been formed and wonderful memories had been made. The camp was enjoyed by all who attended.

Since November 2007, English Discussion Clubs have been held 4 times a week at the Youth House. The clubs are hosted by Stacie Smith, and U.S. Peace Corps volunteer working for the Youth House. The clubs focus on different themes every week, including literature, films, music and current events. The club will also discuss and celebrate American and Bulgarian holidays throughout the year. The English Club held a Christmas Party at Stacie's apartment in mid-December, 2007. The attendees made chocolate chip cookies together and watched a Christmas film. The clubs are held twice each Monday and Friday. The first club is from 11:30-12:30 and the second is from 13:30-14:30. Hope to see you there!

On October 31, 2007 the Youth House hosted a Halloween party at the Hotel Credo. The party was a great success and was attended by many youth. Youth and leaders gathered together before the party to decorate the hall. Together they carved a real pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern! The program included interactive games, karaoke and a costume contest. The winners of the costume contest were crowned "queen" and "king" of the party. The party also included delicious food, disco dancing and a special performance by a local band. A great time was had by all. At the end of the party many youth requested to hold the party again next year. Hope to see you for next year's party- October 31, 2008!!

Доброволците от “Корпуса на мира” организираха на Карандила лагер за момичета от Ямбол и Сливен 09 July 2007 От 2 до 6 юли 2007г. на Карандила се проведе лагерът “Сините камъни”, организиран от доброволците от “Корпуса на мира”. Кристин, Джейми и Джош работят в Сливен, а Тара сътрудничи на Община Ямбол. Идеята да се съберат само момичета идва от формата GLOW /Girls Leading Our World/, който се провежда от “Корпуса” на национално ниво във Велико Търново. Лагерът комбинира тематични дискусии за свободата, толерантността, самооценката, работа в екип, ролите на двата пола в обществото и здравословния начин на живот с интересни игри, занятия сред природата, пикници, походи и разбира се, песни около лагерния огън. Незабравим бе Денят на независимостта, честван с българска баница, американски сладкиши, гарнирани с много музика и смях. Участнички в лагера бяха възпитаници на ПМГ "Добри Чинтулов", ГПЗЕ "Захарий Стоянов" и езиковата гимназия в Ямбол. Прощалната вечер те изненадаха американските си приятели с КАРАОКЕ изпълнения и топлина около камината в началото на юли. Момичетата от лагера "Сините камъни" потърсиха нашия екип , за да изразят благодарността си към американските си приятели за изживяните положителни емоции и за дарената радост. Last week, after taking care of some things at school on Monday, I met up with Josh and the two of us headed up the chairlift to Karandila. Karandila is the area at the top of the mountains right next to Sliven and has a number of hizhas and more proper hotels. Josh and I had agreed to help Christin with her summer camp for teenage girls from the area. B19 Tara from nearby Yambol also joined us as a "counselor". The idea of this camp is to teach (in English) things about values, leadership, gender roles, healthy living, etc., etc. I was there mostly to provide support as needed. I also had to carry up about a hundred pounds of equipment to show some videos on human trafficking, to show a movie on "movie night" and to serve as a karaoke machine for, you guessed it, karaoke night. There were only 9 girls at the camp, but they all got along well and it turned out very well. It was the first time one of the girls had had an overnight stay away from her family. You could tell at the end that she really, really liked the camp. They all seemed to be quite pleased with it and this made me happy. I feel like I did so much more in those 5 days than in most of the rest of the year. And Christin did almost all of the work! Keep up the good work! -Jamey

Youth house is organizing "Rock concert in Karandila". The Karandila area is situated in the Balkan, in walking distance to the town of Sliven. There, one can visit the Sinite Kamuni (Blue Stones) Nature Park. The park has extremely interesting rock formations, such as Halkata (literally meaning the Ring). Further up the hill, one can climb to the Karandila Chalet, where he/she can take advantage of a ski run with two taglines, a football field, a lake with boats and rocks suitable for professional climbing.
